This is the famous Inca Trail Hike with an extra day built in to appreciate the incredible beauty and skill of the engineers of the Inca Trail.
DAY 1: CUSCO TO HUAYLLABAMBA
We will pick you up at your hotel early in the morning and take you by bus to Kilometer 82. At Km 82 we will meet up with the porters, cooks, and guide and gather the equipment needed for our excursion. We will start by walking along the Urubamba River, until we reach Willky, where we will have lunch. After lunch we will continue to Huayllabamba where we will set up camp, eat a nice dinner and spend the night.
DAY 2: WAYLLABAMBA TO PACAMAYO
After breakfast we will continue our trek until we reach the highest point of our journey, the Warmiwuanusca pass (literally translated as: ‘where the women die’) at 4,200 meters above sea level (13,780 feet). Here we will get a wonderful panoramic view of the snow capped peaks, lush valleys and spectacular surrounding mountains. We will then descend into the grand valley of Pacaymayo, where there will be hot tea waiting, and where we will eat dinner and set up camp for the night.
DAY 3: PACAYMAYO TO PUYUPATAMARCA
We will eat an early breakfast and then head to the Runcuracay archeological site at 3,700 meters above sea level (12,139 feet), and then continue on to Chakicocha, where we will eat lunch. After lunch, we will walk to Puyupatamarca (the city above the clouds), which is an impressive Inca town, and has a great view of our route.
DAY 4: PUYUPATAMARCA TO MACHU PICCHU
After breakfast we will hike to an impressive view of the Cordillera de Vilcabamba. We will then continue on our journey to Winaywayna, where we will visit the archeological site and eat lunch. After lunch we will head to the stunning entrance of Machu Picchu through the Inti Punku or Sun Door. Here you will have a panoramic view of this world famous ruin. We will then catch a bus to Aguas Calientes for dinner and to stay the night.
DAY 5: MACHU PICCHU
We will wake up very early and catch a bus to take a guided tour of the marvelous Machu Picchu. You will get a chance to experience the ruins and monuments, such as the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Sun Dial, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and the cemeteries. After the tour there will be free time to stroll around the town, and then we will catch a bus down to Aguas Calientes for lunch. In the afternoon we will return to Cusco by train, which will conclude the tour. Optional Activity: For those of you interested, you can pre-book the hike up to the stunning view from Huayna Picchu.
